Truck and Tow: Why Loaded Ford Brakes Fade

Ford trucks are bought to work - boats, campers, equipment trailers, and payload in the bed. Factory F-Series brakes are built to a warranty cost, not to sustained towing heat. On a long grade, a loaded F-150 or Super Duty converts that mass into rotor temperature faster than G3000 cast iron and semi-metallic pads can shed it. Pedal fade, pulsation, and blue rotor faces are the usual result after a season of real trailer use.

Ghost Brakes Ford truck kits use G11H18 high-carbon drilled and slotted rotors and carbon ceramic pads. That is the default truck spec (555), not a 2-piece muscle-car kit. Diamond slots evacuate gas and dust under load; GEOMET® coating protects hat and vanes from salt and wet ramps. See the heavy towing brakes guide for how grade descents stress OEM hardware.

F-150: Half-Ton Daily Driver and Trailer Truck

The F-150 covers EcoBoost, 5.0 V8, PowerBoost, and work-truck trims across 13th gen (2015–2020) and 14th gen (2021+). Most owners mix commuting with a trailer on weekends. OEM rotors keep up until the first loaded mountain descent or a summer of boat-ramp stops. After that, thickness variation shows up as a pulsing pedal.

F-150 kits are sized to half-ton rotor diameter and factory calipers - not Super Duty hardware and not Raptor. Confirm generation and engine in the grid, or read the dedicated F-150 brake kits page and the F-150 towing brake kit guide.

Super Duty F-250 and F-350+: Gooseneck and Fifth-Wheel Heat

Super Duty is a different brake problem than F-150. F-250 and F-350 stop more truck, more trailer, and more repeated commercial cycles - gooseneck, fifth-wheel, dump, and equipment haulers. Rotor mass and caliper spec are larger. An F-150 kit will not fit, and half-ton thermal capacity is not enough for that duty.

Use the F-250 or F-350 filter above, then open the Super Duty F-250 / F-350 brake kits page for generation and diesel vs gas notes. G11H18 rotors and carbon ceramic pads are still the truck recipe; the casting and diameter match Super Duty, not Ranger or F-150.

Ranger: Light-Duty Midsize Work and Trail

Ranger is the light-duty Ford truck - midsize mass, midsize rotors, often 4x4 and Tremor trail use plus a small trailer. It is not an F-150. Pads still glaze on grades if you tow near the Ranger rating, and OEM zinc plating still rusts after winter or boat ramps.

Ranger kits follow the same G11H18 drilled-and-slotted and carbon ceramic pad spec, sized to Ranger calipers. Filter the grid to Ranger, or go to the Ranger brake kits page for 2019+ XL through Lariat and Tremor notes.

Off-Road: Bronco and Raptor

Off-road Ford braking adds water, mud, and long descents with little airflow. OEM rotors shock-cool after crossings, rust in the vanes, and glaze when packed with grit. Bronco (2021+ 2-door and 4-door) and F-150 Raptor / Raptor R are the two Ford platforms that see that cycle the most.

Raptor is not a standard F-150 kit - larger rotors and different calipers. Bronco is its own midsize off-road spec. GEOMET coating matters here more than on a pavement-only work truck. Bronco brake kits and Raptor brake kits spell out door count, Wildtrak / Badlands, and Raptor R separately.

What Is in a Ghost Brakes Ford Truck Kit

Each Ford truck kit is a matched rotor and pad set for factory calipers. Truck kits are the 555 drilled-and-slotted line: G11H18 iron, diamond slots, cross-drills, and GEOMET on non-friction surfaces. Pads are carbon ceramic, chosen for towing and trail heat rather than track bite.

  • G11H18 drilled and diamond-slotted rotors, sized to that Ford model
  • Matched carbon ceramic pads for towing and off-road duty
  • GEOMET® coating on hats and vanes
  • Lifetime warranty on defects and premature wear

After install, follow the break-in procedure before the next loaded trip. Free continental US shipping. If you are unsure between F-150, Super Duty, and Raptor, use Ford year / model / trim.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Ford F-150 and Super Duty trucks use the same brake kit?

No. F-150 (half-ton) and Super Duty F-250 / F-350 use different rotor diameters, caliper hardware, and thermal loads. Pick the F-150 kit or the Super Duty kit for your truck - the product grid above filters by model.

What rotors come in a Ford truck brake kit?

Ghost Brakes Ford truck kits use G11H18 high-carbon iron drilled and diamond-slotted rotors with GEOMET coating, matched to carbon ceramic pads. That is the default 555 drilled-and-slotted truck spec - not a 2-piece muscle-car kit.

Does the Ford Ranger use the same brakes as an F-150?

No. Ranger is a midsize / light-duty truck with its own rotor size and caliper spec. Use the Ranger filter or the Ranger brake kits page. F-150 kits will not bolt onto a Ranger.

Do Raptor brake kits fit a regular F-150?

Usually not. F-150 Raptor and Raptor R use a larger rotor and different caliper package than a standard F-150. Confirm year and trim in the grid, or open the dedicated Raptor page.

Are Ford truck brakes strong enough for towing?

Factory Ford truck brakes handle light trailer work. Regular towing, grade descents, and Super Duty fifth-wheel loads overheat G3000 OEM rotors and glaze semi-metallic pads. G11H18 drilled and slotted rotors plus carbon ceramic pads hold friction longer under that heat.

Do I need different pads if I tow with my F-150 or Super Duty?

If you tow often, yes. OEM semi-metallic pads fade on long grades and dust heavily. Ghost Brakes carbon ceramic pads are matched to the rotors in each truck kit for towing-duty heat cycles.

What Ford years and trims do these kits cover?

Coverage is year- and rotor-specific. Filter the grid by F-150, F-250, F-350, Raptor, Bronco, or Ranger, then confirm your year on the Ford vehicle pages. Bronco kits cover 2021+ 2-door and 4-door; Super Duty and F-150 split by generation.

Do Ghost Brakes Ford truck kits include a warranty?

Every Ghost Brakes Ford truck kit includes a lifetime manufacturer warranty covering defects and premature wear, plus free continental US shipping. Direct bolt-on to factory calipers.
