Toyota Tundra & Tacoma Maintenance Schedule: Mile-by-Mile Guide

Normal vs Severe Duty: Know Which Schedule You're On

Toyota's published maintenance schedule assumes on-road driving with occasional light towing. If you own a Tundra that tows near its 12,000-lb rating, an i-FORCE MAX hybrid used for sustained grades, or a Tacoma TRD Pro that sees regular trail use — you are on the severe-duty schedule whether or not the dash reminder reflects it.

Key Milestones

Use this as a floor, not a ceiling — any warning light, new noise, or change in braking feel should trigger immediate inspection regardless of mileage.

  • Every 5,000 mi (severe) / 10,000 mi (normal): engine oil and filter
  • Every 5,000–7,500 mi: tire rotation and brake inspection
  • Every 15,000–30,000 mi: engine air filter; cabin filter every 15,000–25,000 mi
  • Every 30,000 mi (off-road/tow): transfer case and differential fluid inspection
  • Every 60,000–100,000 mi: serpentine belt, coolant, and transmission fluid evaluation

Brakes Belong on Every Service Checkpoint

Toyota's schedule mentions brake inspection at regular intervals, but Tundra towing and TRD Pro trail use wear friction components faster than the standard checklist assumes. Pair every fluid service with a pad thickness and rotor condition check — and upgrade before fade becomes a safety issue on your next tow or descent.
