Camaro ZL1 Brake Fluid Flush Guide: Track-Day DOT 4

Why ZL1 Brake Fluid Boils on Track

The ZL1's Brembo 6-piston front calipers generate enormous heat under repeated braking from 150+ mph. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, lowering its boiling point. Boiled fluid causes a soft, spongy pedal mid-session — the classic sign you need a flush and possibly a higher-temp fluid.

Flush Procedure Overview

Refer to the points below for specs, intervals, and service tips.

  • Bleed all four corners in correct sequence (RR, LR, RF, LF typically)
  • Use a pressure bleeder or two-person method on Brembo calipers
  • Flush until fluid runs clean with no air bubbles
  • Bed new pads after any caliper or fluid service that opened the system

Upgrade Path: Fluid + Rotors + Pads

Fresh fluid solves pedal fade from moisture. For thermal fade from rotor mass and pad compound, upgrade to 2-piece rotors and carbon ceramic pads — the combination that keeps ZL1s stopping consistently through a full HPDE session.

Fluid and Pads Both Manage Heat

Carbon ceramic pads plus fresh DOT 4 = consistent ZL1 stops lap after lap.
