Supercharger Belt & Tensioner Wear Guide: Hellcat & Trackhawk

Why the Supercharger Belt Matters

The accessory drive belt spins the IHI supercharger on Hellcat and Trackhawk engines. A glazed, cracked, or slipping belt reduces boost, adds heat, and can leave you stranded without forced induction. The tensioner and idler pulleys wear with the belt — replace as a system.

Symptoms of Belt or Tensioner Failure

Address chirp early — belt slip generates heat that accelerates wear on the blower snout bearing.

  • Chirp or squeal on cold start or under WOT
  • Visible cracking or glazing on belt ribs
  • Tensioner arm movement or pulley bearing noise
  • Boost drop or inconsistent power delivery

Replacement Best Practices

Use OEM or Gates equivalent belt spec. Replace tensioner and idlers when replacing a worn belt. After service, log the mileage and inspect quarterly if you track the car.
