Camaro ZL1 Transmission Fluid Guide: 10L90 Auto & TR6060 Manual

Two Transmissions, Two Service Strategies

The Camaro ZL1 shipped with either the 10L90 10-speed automatic or the TR6060 6-speed manual. Both handle 650 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque, but they manage heat differently — the auto relies on clutch packs and fluid cooling, while the manual depends on synchro fluid integrity under repeated hard shifts.

10L90 Automatic: Spec and Interval

Refer to the points below for specs, intervals, and service tips.

  • Dexron ULV or GM-spec ATF for 10L90 (confirm model year)
  • Proactive service around 60,000 miles for track/street hybrid use
  • Harsh 2-3 shifts or flare after hot laps = fluid is tired
  • Pan-drop refreshes ~40-50% of volume; full exchange through a specialist for complete refresh

TR6060 Manual: When to Change

Manual ZL1 owners who track should change TR6060 fluid every 15,000–20,000 miles or once per track season. Grinding shifts, notchiness when cold, or metal glitter on the drain plug are signs to service immediately.
