GEOMET® Anti-Corrosion Coating

  • Eco-friendly corrosion protection that outperforms traditional zinc plating

What Is GEOMET® Coating?

GEOMET® is a proprietary water-based inorganic coating system developed by NOF Metal Coatings. It provides exceptional corrosion protection through a zinc-and-aluminum flake matrix bonded directly to the metal surface — without the environmental concerns of traditional zinc plating or electrogalvanizing.

Ghost Rotors applies GEOMET® to all rotor surfaces including:

  • Hat (bell) and mounting face
  • Vane channels and internal surfaces
  • Non-friction outer surfaces of the rotor face
  • Around drilled holes and slots

The friction surface remains uncoated — the pad beds directly on bare iron for optimal friction, while all exposed non-friction surfaces stay rust-free.

GEOMET® vs Zinc Plating

Many budget aftermarket rotors use zinc electroplating for corrosion protection. While zinc plating works initially, it has significant limitations compared to GEOMET®:

  • Zinc plating is applied in an electrolytic bath using heavy metal solutions — an environmentally regulated process that produces hazardous waste
  • Zinc coating adhesion can fail at the edges of drilled holes and slots under thermal cycling, leaving bare metal exposed
  • Zinc coating thickness is typically thinner than GEOMET®, providing less barrier protection over time

GEOMET® outperforms zinc plating in standardized salt spray corrosion tests (ASTM B117) by 3–5x, maintaining protection in harsh winter, coastal, and high-humidity environments.

Eco-Friendly & Longer-Lasting

The water-based GEOMET® formula contains no heavy metals, no solvents, and no hexavalent chromium — making it compliant with the most stringent environmental regulations globally, including EU ELV (End of Life Vehicle) Directive.

For Ghost Rotors customers, this means:

  • Rotors that look clean longer — no orange surface rust forming on visible surfaces between brake events
  • Protection that holds at drilled holes and slot edges — areas where zinc plating typically fails first
  • Reduced long-term corrosion in road salt environments, coastal climates, and wet regions

Combined with our 2-piece rotor design and carbon ceramic pads, GEOMET® coating is the final layer of a complete, long-lasting brake system.
