A Dedicated Niche, Not a Catch-All Category

Most brake shoppers are looking for a straightforward 1-piece drilled-and-slotted upgrade - that's the bulk of the Ghost Brakes catalog, and it's not going anywhere. But a smaller group of vehicles - the highest-output, highest-heat platforms we sell - need a fundamentally different rotor architecture: a 2-piece floating design where the aluminum hat is mechanically separated from the iron friction ring. This page is the hub for that niche.

We call this line 2-Piece Performance rather than borrowing a manufacturer's trademark. It covers American Muscle platforms - Hellcat, Camaro ZL1, Trackhawk, Chrysler 300 SRT8 - and the Nissan GT-R, which is Japanese, not American, but shares the same 2-piece engineering requirement. We're being straightforward about that mix rather than dressing it up as an all-American lineup.

Why These Vehicles Specifically Need 2-Piece Rotors

A 2-piece rotor solves one specific problem: thermal warping under repeated hard braking from high speed. Single-piece rotors expand as a single unit when heated - hat and friction ring together - which creates stress that warps the rotor and causes pedal pulsation. A 2-piece design lets the iron friction ring float independently on bobbins, expanding on its own without pulling the aluminum hat out of shape.

That problem only shows up at a certain power and weight threshold. A base Charger doesn't need it - plenty of Dodge trims run fine on a 1-piece rotor for their entire service life. A 707+ HP Hellcat, a 670 HP C8 Z06, or a launch-control GT-R generates enough repeated braking heat that the OEM single-piece rotor becomes the weak link. That's the dividing line for this category: not "is it a muscle car," but "does it actually generate track-level thermal load."

Not All 2-Piece Kits Are Built the Same: Front-Only vs Full 2-Piece

Within this line, there are two distinct configurations, and getting them mixed up means buying (or showing) the wrong parts:

2-piece front / 1-piece rear ("American split") — Hellcat, Trackhawk, Camaro ZL1, and Chrysler 300 SRT8 all put the majority of braking heat on the front axle, so only the front rotor needs the 2-piece treatment. The rear stays a 1-piece G11H18 drilled-and-slotted rotor.
Full 2-piece, front AND rear — the Corvette C7 Z06 and C8 Z06/ZR1 are the exception. Brembo sizes their calipers evenly front-to-rear on these trims, so both rotors need independent-expansion construction. No. "SRT" is Dodge/Stellantis's own trademarked performance sub-brand. Ghost Brakes 2-Piece Performance line spans multiple manufacturers - Chevrolet, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, and Nissan - so we use our own naming rather than a single automaker's trademark.
