The serpentine belt on Sierra engines typically drives the alternator, power steering pump, and water pump from a single belt. A failure doesn't just kill one system — it can take out charging, steering assist, and cooling simultaneously.

Towing and dusty off-road use both generate more underhood heat and debris exposure, which accelerates belt aging — inspect more frequently in either case.

A belt showing visible wear should be replaced proactively, not run to failure — especially before a long tow or a remote trail run. The same logic applies to brake pads: address wear before it becomes a stop you can't make safely.

Just like a belt failure strands you, worn brakes fail you when you need them most.
